If it doesn't matter if you lose them, games will be treated like

NFL preseason games (or NBA "load management"). Also, they schedule cupcakes today in part so they can get extra home games.

If I'm the coach of Virginia Tech and we have a non league tilt against Purdue in mid-November. And I need to beat Virginia the next week in order to get to the ACCCG... Guess what. If anyone is banged up, I'm sitting them. I am also not putting anything on film I don't want Virginia to see. I'm also getting a look at my backups and keeping them happy so they don't transfer.

Oddly enough. The way things are now, the "cupcake" games are MUST win if you have national title aspirations.
